About Me:My name is Samantha Miller, or Sam, and I am a fourth year molecular biology major at California State University, Monterey Bay. I am a Goldwater Scholar, an Undergraduate Research Opportunities Center Scholar, and I tutor Precalculus, Calculus I, Calculus II, Molecular and Cell Biology and Animal Physiology, and Genetics at CSUMB's Cooperative Learning Center. I am also Co-founder and Vice President of the CSUMB Linux Users Group (GitHub). The CSUMBLUG strives to provide an environment for community discourse and contribution of ideas to the Linux Project, proliferate the ideals of the Open Source movement as they apply to computing and academia as a whole, and organize computational outreach events targeted both towards the Monterey community and towards youth programs dedicated to improving STEM education.
I am applying for Ph.D. programs in evolutionary biology and anthropology, where I hope to study the genetics of hominin evolution and ancient admixture events. After obtaining my Ph.D., I intend to become a curator and researcher at a natural history museum. If I have seen a little further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants -Sir Isaac Newton |
